These photomontages were constructed from photographs taken of
distressed buildings in and around Hoboken, New Jersey and the surrounding
New York City area in the 1980s. Although occurring in some cases for a
fleeting moment they are presented here as permanent objects.
They are studies meant to show a certain
inherent architectural beauty in these degenerating structures. The resultant
images are an attempt to create a kind of formal monumentality out of the
accidental shapes and as a study in architectural composition using
industrial elements and rugged surfaces.
